Meet Cara...
A brief bio….
I have been a Chatham resident for over 16 years. When my husband and I were looking to buy our first house we knew we wanted to raise a family in a town with great schools, a direct train to NYC and that was near our parents in Union, NJ. Both of our children went to Milton, LAF, CMS and CHS and one is now happily a sophomore at Ohio State and the other is a Junior at Chatham High School.
We couldn't be happier with the community here!
Why did you start your business? What do you love most about being a local business owner?
I started my career in social work, moved to corporate sales and training and then in 2014 I decided it was time to return to health/mental health with a small part time clinical therapy practice. After a couple of years of subletting office space from multiple doctors and health care providers I found a full-time location right here in Chatham.
I love being a resident and a business owner in Chatham and feel very connected to the community I serve.
What do you want the community to know about your business and service offerings?
My clinical practice focuses on helping individuals manage anxiety, stress, trauma and other life transitions. I also love to provide psychoeducation and speaking on topics such as mindfulness and stress management.
I am available for public speaking events and workshops, am a certified Brainspotting therapist (a specific therapeutic tool that uses the neuroscience finding that where you look affects how you feel), and I provide Clinical Supervision to other licensed therapists and MSW candidates seeking advisory support.
Tell the community something about YOU as an individual, outside of your business role.
Outside of being a resident and business owner I really enjoy quiet time at home and spending time with fantastic friends I have made here over the years.
Advice you'd give to others looking to start a small/local business?
Stick with it. It is really easy to become discouraged by the ups and downs of a new business. Ask for help when you can and know that you don't need to do it alone.
Organizations you're involved in/causes you support?
I volunteer with the Red Cross and am a member of the Mayor's Wellness Committee here in town.
