Member Spotlight: Lucky Locks

Meet Katie Smith - Sparkler, Extraordinaire!

A brief bio….

I am from Albuquerque, NM and my husband Chad is from Texas. We have lived in Washington DC, Southern California, Copenhagen, Denmark and we now live in Chatham.

Why did you start your business?

I got started with Lucky Locks when my sister came out and sparkled my two teenage daughters and myself. We fell in love with the look and the brand. I bought the franchise in January 2022, and it has been the very best thing I have ever done! It has helped us to build a beautiful community for us here in New Jersey.  I love my brand and my clients!

What do you love most about being a local business owner?

The community! When we were new to Chatham, we didn’t have our village established yet, and Lucky Locks helped us to get to know the people in our community, and that’s been the best part of being a small local business.

What do you want the community to know about your business, product or service offerings?

My brand is special and unique. I take great pride in offering a unique experience, high quality products, and I take care in longevity of your specific look. I love what I do, and I think it shows in both my product quality and experience.

Tell the community something about YOU as an individual, outside of your business role.

I am a mom of three and have lived in A LOT of different places. I feel like I am the person I am today because of the places I have lived and the friends I have made along the way. My motto in life is “leave a place better than you found it”.  Whether that is just picking up and making the environment better or spreading joy and being a part of wonderful people and a community.

What is your favorite memory of your local business?

There really are so many to choose from. I think my favorite part of my business, and the memories that I make routinely, is that I do this business with my daughters. We run it together, and whether I am figuring out a social media post with Sofia or running an event alongside Emily, we are truly a team, and I absolutely love that we do it together.

Advice you'd give to others looking to start a small/local business?

Go for it! Win or lose you will learn something and meet someone that will change your course, most likely for the better.

Organizations you're involved in?

Anything else you'd like to share?
